Gas Arc Stud Welding
Gas arc stud welding is where an inert shielding gas (such as Argon) is used to shield the weld as opposed to the use of flux. This can be done with or without a ferrule. The sequence is the same as standard drawn arc stud welding except there is a gas purge sequence to begin the operation and remove oxygen from the weld zone.
Gas Arc can eliminate the need for a ferrule but there is a loss of weld puddle control. Also, some alloys (like aluminum) require the use of a shielding gas.
